Post-Op Week 85: Rethinking Goals and a Recipe

image

Nearly as fast as I put on the weight I gained over the holidays, I lost it.  Then regained it.  Then lost it again.  This rollercoaster ride my body’s taking me on is frustrating at most, but is what I suppose maintenance is at best.  What I need to grapple with is this:  am I ready to be here?

Post-Op Week 83: Tired and In Need of a Reset

Well, there went all the progress I made in January.  My face here says it all.  I’m frustrated.

Post-Op Week 80: Nut Up or Shut Up

image

Not surprised by this week’s progress since I was retaining water all week which always happens during my cycle.  The water retention stops when the crimson tide rolls in (ha!), and so does the desire to eat everything that isn’t nailed down.  So this week should be business as usual.

Post-Op Week 79 Progress Report: It’s Not All Sunshine and Roses, Y’all

First week back at it and not too shabby, considering that I am now 18 months post-op.  If I can lose this amount or more each week, I will see my goal weight by Christmas.  I’m definitely learning patience right now!

Post-Op Week 69 Progress Report: Self-Care Takes a Holiday

image

Discouraged this week by the slight uptick on the scale but this week was the week from hell.  Unfortunately this whole month looks to be that way.  This week, I fell down on the job of taking care of myself, and I let stress make choices for me that I wouldn’t have made otherwise.

Post-Op Week 68 Progress Report: Disappointed

image

A little frustrated by my progress as of late but glad to see the scale is still trending downward.  Not being able to be as active as I’d like has really thrown a wrench into my plans to exercise 5 days a week.  I still go 5 days a week, but I feel like I can’t put in as hard a workout as I could before since my knee injury.  I did go early Friday morning and swim, so that may be something I continue to do:  get up at the asscrack of dawn and go swimming.  There is something soothing about swimming back and forth for 40 laps.  All I do is concentrate on breathing, and propelling myself forward.  I don’t have to think about anything else.  It’s very Zen.

I have an MRI scheduled for this coming Saturday morning to see what’s going on in my right knee.  If I have torn meniscus cartilage, I will have to have the knee scoped.  When, I have no idea.  I will have to find the time between now and EVER to be out of commission for about two weeks.  I am NOT jazzed about this.  At. ALL.

Post-Op Week 65 Progress Report: Life Happens

image

This week sees me doing the weight loss cha-cha yet again.  The week was full of challenges stemming from the fact that we are currently a one vehicle household since my car decided last Monday that it had had enough and it was time for a permanent parking spot in the garage in the sky.  I was also dehydrated from yesterday’s trip to the State Fair, which saw me not drinking nearly as much water as I normally do.  But it also saw me walk nearly 6 miles without tiring, and most of that at a pretty good clip.  I couldn’t have done that last year.

Post-Op Week 64 Progress Report: New Workouts

Not surprised by the slight gain this week–it is nearly that time of the month again, and this is par for the course for me and my body.

Post-Op Week 59 Progress Report: Back to School Edition

image

Not surprised by this week’s gain for a couple of reasons.  One, I am retaining water (thanks, nature, you suck); two, I rested from gym workouts this week.  I was so sore from the leg workout I did last Saturday that I was in pain for most of the week, so I decided to give my body a break.  I literally could not move for the first 3 days post-workout without yelping in pain.  What was the source of this pain, you ask?  Squats up against the wall with a balance ball.  Because the leg press machine at my gym is hard on my back (it pushes very, very uncomfortably on the small of my back), I have resorted to doing balance ball squats instead to work my quads.  It’s a better workout anyway, since I’m basically leg pressing my body weight with every repetition, and this is heavier than any plates I could put on the leg press machine and move anyway.

Post-Op Week 56 Progress Report: Aiming at New Targets

Just like it is every month around this time…here’s the step back in this cha-cha of weight loss.  My ankles were puffy this morning despite being in bed for nearly 9 hours and downing over a gallon of fluid yesterday.  I’m not going to sweat it but that doesn’t make this any less frustrating.
