It’s Expensive Running To Stand Still

Today in my part of the Lone Star State, it was a gorgeous day.  We decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather we had today and went for a walk in the park near our place.

In All These Things, I Give Thanks

I have much to be thankful for this year:

  • My health, which has improved greatly since June.  I am hopeful it will continue to do so.
  • My doctors and other health professionals, without whom I would not have been able to return to the healthy state I’m currently in.
  • My work, without which I am pretty sure I would not have purpose.  I am fortunate in that I love what I do, and I love where I do it.
  • My friends, without whom my life would be far less rich and a hell of a lot less fun.
  • My family, whose support of my decision to have WLS has meant so much, and without whom I would be truly lost.
  • Most of all, I am thankful for the unconditional love and support of my husband as we go through this path to better health hand in hand.

Even though I spent the better part of the day in bed feeling unwell (thanks, nature, you suck), I’ll call today a success.  Continue reading

The 25-Minute Mile

A quick health update:

I think the cold I tried to catch last week is finally leaving.  I’m not as congested as I was, and my coughing has quieted down quite a lot.  This is fantastic, as I’ve gotten really poor sleep the past few nights due to the coughing.  I’ll be glad when it’s gone entirely because my abdomen is really sore from all the coughing I’ve done.

Tonight when I got home, I decided that I wanted to go to the park not too far from the house to take a walk and feed the ducks some croutons and corn chips we’d had sitting around the house from before we had surgery.  So I changed clothes and hubby and I went to the park but didn’t stay long since the skies looked like they might open up and pour down rain any second.

I scattered the food around and the critters came sniffing about, curious about what had just been tossed their way.  I knew that the ducks might not eat what I threw out, but that the nutria that live there definitely would.  A few minutes after I’d distributed the food around the creek bank, sure enough, one came up from the creek to see what goodies we’d brought.  We got to see one of them sneak onto the bank and snack on the stuff we’d tossed out:

After I got done feeding the critters, I decided that I wanted to take a short walk. Continue reading

Monday’s Daily Bites, Fashion Victories and Walking My Ass Off

Today I was over my calories a bit, but not by much (864; normally I’m at 800). Here’s what I ate:

Today’s food choices, from upper left: Rudy’s smoked ham pieces and a scrambled egg with a little shredded sharp cheddar; multivitamin and calcium supplements x2; Trader Joe’s turkey jerky; barbecued boneless skinless chicken thigh and green beans with bacon; Sargento reduced fat cheddar cheese stick; barbecued boneless skinless chicken thigh with Rudy’s pinto beans. Not shown: half a Trader Joe’s parmesan pup sample from the store (damn those samples!).

Tonight I had a moment of weakness when we were at Trader Joe’s.  I made the mistake of letting my nose lead me to the back of the store where they are always sampling something, and tonight was no exception.
