Post-Op Week 76 Progress Report: Heading Into the Holiday

image

Well, color me a little surprised.  I knew last week’s weight gain was water weight due to hormones, but I wasn’t expecting all of it to come back off and then some.  I wonder if some of the weight that came off is because I have been on an antibiotic that dehydrates me.  I got diagnosed with strep at the tail end of the week and felt pretty miserable the last few days but am feeling better now.

Post-Op Week 74 Progress Report: Getting Back Into the Groove

image

The weight I gained while on vacation last week is slowly coming back off.  I knew it would, especially since I was back home, eating my usual stuff and not being presented with starchy carbs and sweets at every turn.  I know those pounds will take a little bit to come off, but I am okay with that.

Post-Op Week 69 Progress Report: Self-Care Takes a Holiday

image

Discouraged this week by the slight uptick on the scale but this week was the week from hell.  Unfortunately this whole month looks to be that way.  This week, I fell down on the job of taking care of myself, and I let stress make choices for me that I wouldn’t have made otherwise.

Post-Op Week 59 Progress Report: Back to School Edition

Not surprised by this week’s gain for a couple of reasons.  One, I am retaining water (thanks, nature, you suck); two, I rested from gym workouts this week.  I was so sore from the leg workout I did last Saturday that I was in pain for most of the week, so I decided to give my body a break.  I literally could not move for the first 3 days post-workout without yelping in pain.  What was the source of this pain, you ask?  Squats up against the wall with a balance ball.  Because the leg press machine at my gym is hard on my back (it pushes very, very uncomfortably on the small of my back), I have resorted to doing balance ball squats instead to work my quads.  It’s a better workout anyway, since I’m basically leg pressing my body weight with every repetition, and this is heavier than any plates I could put on the leg press machine and move anyway.

Post-Op Week 58 Progress Report: Back to Work, or Why I Keep Busy

image

Really pleased with this week’s progress.  I am hopeful this will continue, given that I head back to school this week and won’t be around my fridge all day.  As someone who eats out of boredom, this is a big deal.  It’s also one of the main reasons I’ve kept myself so busy this summer–if I am not constantly occupied, I will eat because it’s something to do.

Post-Op Week 53 Progress Report

This week saw me back at home, back in my usual routine, and back down on the scale.  I’m inching slowly toward goal, and I’m okay with the slow progress.

Post-Op Week 52 Progress Report: The Big Day is Coming

image

It’s almost insulting that the very last photo of this yearlong series shows me posting a gain. But I have several things working against me this week: vacation eating and all its sodium; all the sitting done in the car yesterday in our vain attempt to make it to Gulf Shores (we did NOT); Ma Nature is due any day now, and my scale needs new batteries (it is weighing inconsistently–I weighed four different amounts in 4 different trips to the scale this morning). For all that I gained this week (which wasn’t much, all things considered), weight was the thing that was the least important.

Post-Op Week 50: In Which I Plan for Vacation

image

Slightly up on the scale this week.  I think it’s probably due to the eating out that happened this week.  I need to dial that back this week as much as possible since we will be heading out of town at the end of the week, and eating out is mostly what we’ll be doing.  We will be at my mother in law’s for part of the time we’re gone, which is good because we’ll be eating at home pretty much all that time.  When we go visit, I generally do all the cooking because my MIL is arthritic and spending long periods of time on her feet, bending and stooping is really painful for her.  So I help out by cooking for all of us while we are there.  I also load up her freezer with pre-cooked meals so that all she has to do is reheat them.

But spending time there is also a bad thing because the only thing we tend to do while we’re visiting is sit, sit, sit, and sit some more.

Post-Op Week 33 Progress Report

No change this week.  I’ll take it.  It’s not a gain.

Sorry for the picture quality. It’s a bit blurry and I had to lighten it a little because the original shot was dark.

I let myself get derailed slightly last week.  I know this.  And I own it.  I am not perfect and have never claimed to be.

But I also know what I need to do to get ‘er done.

In The Middle of Difficulty Lies Opportunity

Einstein said that, a really long time ago.  I never really gave it much thought until today.

Today, I was presented with a fantastic opportunity and I decided to seize on it.

The opportunity involves a birthday gift to myself.  Last year’s gift was pretty big, and I had been thinking about what I could give myself that was better than the gift I bought myself last year, because my sleeve is the gift that keeps on giving.  And that’s no joke.
