Post-Op Week 96: The Light at the End of the Tunnel

…feels like an oncoming train these days.

So what do I do?  I cook, I eat, and I plod on.

Here’s a sampling of what I cooked last week (I’m a week late, I know).

Top:  pot roast with fresh herbs and veggies.

Left:  broccoli, ham egg and cheese frittata.

Right:  white bean, kale and sausage stew.

Just trying to keep my head above water (pretty literally these days, we’re experiencing record rains after being in drought for 5 years).  June 5 cannot get here soon enough.

Post-Op Week 93: It Messes With Your Mind

Slow and steady wins the race, right?   This week I went veggie heavy and it seems to have paid off.  So I’ll be doing that again this week too.  I really like how I feel when I eat veggies, so this will be something that I continue to do.

Post-Op Week 92: Craving Veggies

image

Plodding along this week.  I ate more veggies this week, and liked how I felt afterward so I decided to go veggie heavy this week.  I think the extra fiber will also be good for me–hell, I know it will be.  I’m learning to listen more to what my body feels like having, and this week it really wanted more veggies.

Post-Op Week 85: Rethinking Goals and a Recipe

image

Nearly as fast as I put on the weight I gained over the holidays, I lost it.  Then regained it.  Then lost it again.  This rollercoaster ride my body’s taking me on is frustrating at most, but is what I suppose maintenance is at best.  What I need to grapple with is this:  am I ready to be here?

Post-Op Week 81 Progress Report

Finally the scale is creeping downward and the holiday regain is about gone!  I’m hoping this continues.   Still struggling to get motivated to exercise though.  Perhaps I should focus on getting more sleep first, because the lack of sleep is hurting my want to exercise.  When I am tired, the last thing I want to do is work out.  I know I’m not sleeping enough but I have so many things I’m juggling right now that it’s hard to get them all done in the 24 hours I am given each day.

Post-Op Week 80: Nut Up or Shut Up

image

Not surprised by this week’s progress since I was retaining water all week which always happens during my cycle.  The water retention stops when the crimson tide rolls in (ha!), and so does the desire to eat everything that isn’t nailed down.  So this week should be business as usual.

Post-Op Week 78 Progress Report: Revising the Goal and Goals for 2015

Not pleased by the scale this week but after some careful thought and some good old-fashioned data analysis (ever the scientist, I am), I know why I am up and into a weight range I do not feel comfortable being in.

Post-Op Week 45 Progress Report: Complacency is a Dangerous Thing

image

Slightly up on the scale this week, but not surprised.  The week following my period, I am always up a pound or two.  This is the pattern of lose-gain that I’ve noticed that my body slips into each month.  I think I may cut calories back to 1000-1100 this week since my hunger isn’t as intense the weeks after my period ends.  It’s only during that week that I feel like a bottomless pit.  I did also have a few too many calories yesterday (I was at nearly 1400) and a lot of sodium, so I know those two things didn’t help me today.

This week’s progress was good.  Unexpectedly so, even.

Post-Op Week 38 Progress Report

This week saw a slight uptick in the scale, but I’m not worried about it.  I ate a bit more salt yesterday than I normally do, and I also increased my carb intake this week to prep for yesterday’s race.  I’m pretty sure that the glycogen I stored is binding some of the water I’m holding on to.  Also, as one of my MFP friends pointed out, it’s possible that the workout I did yesterday caused my muscles to be holding on to some fluid as well.  Regardless of what it was that caused the slight gain, this week I’m cutting back to my usual 50 grams or less of carbs, and keeping my protein intake high as usual.
